Magalí Armillas-Tiseyra is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Comparative Literature at New York University. Her research interests include Latin American literature and culture since Independence, African literatures (Anglophone and Francophone), aesthetics and politics, the history of the intellectual in postcolonial contexts, orality and lettered culture, translation, and critical theory. Her dissertation, "Dictates of Authority: Aesthetics with Politics in the Spanish American and African Dictator-Novel," is the first extensive comparative study of novels about dictators in Latin American and African literatures. She is the Managing Editor of e-misférica for the 2011-2012 academic year.
